What the Bible says about Jesus

The True Light "In him, (the Lord Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world,…the world didn’t recognize him." John 1:4,9.
The Good Seed and the Weeds The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seeds in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. Matthew 13:24,25.

John MacArthur and Cultural Liberalism

  1. Apparently MacArthur does a lot of u-turns. There is a video I've seen of his in which he says people who take the mark of the Beast will have a second chance of being saved in the tribulation, which is false. (Revelation 14:9-11). But a blogger whom we are both familiar with, who quotes him frequently, said that he has since repented of saying that, and admitted it was incorrect. I didn't see the video of that, so I can't know for sure. I read Bro. Cloud's newsletters and articles regularly as a subscriber, and he holds to a very stringent standard when it comes to separation, rock-inspired church music, and just about everything else. I don't always like his positions, but I've generally had to concede that he is right. I'd sooner consult with him than MacArthur, even allowing for the fact that preachers are human and they're going to get it wrong sometimes, because of the magnitude of the issues MacArthur has waffled on, is pretty significant. I used to appreciate Brannon Howse and his worldview weekend ministry and discernment, but when he, along with Jimmy DeYoung, said the same thing about those taking the mark of the beast having second chances, I couldn't count on their discernment anymore either. It's not that a Christian can't misunderstand things, and then later figure it out, that's what it means to learn and grow in the Word, but for everyone's sake, don't call yourself having the gift of discernment, while getting it grossly wrong. I know a lot of people call Cloud judgmental and "holier-than-thou", etc, but I haven't ever seen anyone put forth a biblically sound refutation of anything he has said or written. I think that speaks volumes. I appreciate Dr. Cloud's ministry, particularly in light of these darkening hours where it seems that preachers and spiritual leaders are falling in apostasy left and right. There are precious few left that are holding out against compromise, and others who drift off in pride on pet projects and intriguing topics, that lose credibility that way. Even if Cloud's standard seems impossibly high to some, that is all the more reason not to lower the bar.

  2. I had to come back and share this link with you when the very next article in my reader featured this interview with the infamous hard-rocker Alice Cooper:

I can't help but wonder what Bro Cloud would comment on that. There are a lot of very sincere believers who have never even been taught that Christians are supposed to come out of the worldly things. I wasn't. But eventually if you are pursuing God and seeking Him, and learning of Him via His Word, you come to understand this. I do also think that those people who understand more, have to be careful not to heap condemnation on those who are newer in their walk and understanding. Is Alice Cooper really a born again Christian now? Even as he stands there saying how he still loves to rock and roll? There are those who would not hesitate to conclude that no, he is not saved. Based on that one statement about still loving to rock and roll, even though he admitted that he is much more careful about what he says (lyrics). I was never a rocker, so I couldn't name one of his songs, but I do definitely recall his reputation. It is scary that someone raised in a Christian home, his father a pastor, could go that far in the opposite direction. I think Katie Perry is one of the current mega-stars with that same legacy. If I'm not getting her mixed up with someone else, maybe the other one, Lady Gag-me. The one that showed up at some award ceremony inside an egg. I guess though, that it shouldn't be surprising that the enemy would pursue the children of pastors more vigorously than others. We each have our own free will, so Satan knows they are as "fair game" as anyone and offer the added "bonus" of being able to use them to cause great heartache to servants of the Lord, by intentionally going after their kids.
